Can credit card companies close your accounts without warning? How does it affect your credit score?

Sara asked:

I received a letter in the mail from Juniper (iTunes Rewards) stating that they have closed my credit card account due to inactivity. I opened the account about 18 months ago and have never actually used it. Can they close my account just like that without any warning? How should I handle the situation? (Is there anything I can even do?)

Also, I know that closing credit card accounts lowers your credit score. Does anyone know how much mine will be affected?

It is my understanding that we can get a free credit report. However, everyplace I find wants me to pay $15 a month or something similar. So…how do we get a free credit report? As a side note, I do report SPAM messages and encourage others to as well. :-)

52donnie asked:

I started a small work at home business a few months ago as a part time venture. As of yet I’m not making any money. I was told that as a small business owner that I would have a $3500 tax credit. Is this so?

Will selling my house raise my credit score?

My wife and I a selling our house, that we have lived in for a bit over a year. My current credit score is around 600. We have been ontime with all of our bills and I only have poor credit do to college stupidity. So, will the selling the house and paying off the note raise my score?

**We are not selling the house just for this reason and we are not buying a new house in the near future.***

If I combine 2 credit cards, will it hurt my credit score?

Qrious asked:

I have 2 cards from capital one that I use every month, but pay off every month. One has a credit limit of $500 the other is $1200. If I call to combine the credit limits into one card will my credit score suffer since one account will be considered closed? Or will it remain the same since the limit will not change.

I am planning on applying for another credit card with a higher limit to improve my score, and I don’t want a lot of cards. Thanks!
